For Duane Penister, education, hard work, family, and service have always been more than words—they are the values that have guided his life.
Raised alongside his two older brothers, Duane credits his late parents, Hattie Penister, a schoolteacher, and Theodore Penister, who served in the military, with instilling in him a strong work ethic and a belief in the importance of education and giving back to others.
Duane attended the University at Buffalo, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. It was also there that he met his future wife, Sheila Collier. He later earned his MBA from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Business.
Duane and Sheila have been married for more than 35 years and are the proud parents of two sons, Duane Deon and Xavier Jeremy. For nearly three decades, they have called Rockland County home, building deep personal, professional, and community ties throughout the area.
Professionally, Duane began his career in corporate America, working as a project manager with major organizations, including IBM, AIG, and Bankers Trust. Those experiences provided a strong foundation in business, management, and leadership. However, Duane ultimately felt called to build something of his own—something that would allow him to work more directly with people, help families achieve their goals, and make a meaningful difference in the communities he serves.
That calling led him to real estate more than 20 years ago.
Today, Duane is the CEO and owner of DePenn Realty and co-owner, alongside Sheila, of Real Property Management DePenn. Together, the companies form the DePenn Brand, providing residential and commercial real estate brokerage, leasing, and professional property management services.
With a real estate practice spanning Westchester and Rockland counties, the Bronx, and portions of Orange County, Duane brings extensive market knowledge, business experience, and a personalized approach to every client relationship. Whether assisting first-time homebuyers, experienced sellers, investors, or property owners, his commitment remains the same: to educate, guide, and empower clients to make informed real estate decisions with confidence.
Duane's commitment to education has also brought his career full circle. In addition to his real estate and business leadership, he serves as an adjunct professor at Rockland Community College, where he has the opportunity to share his professional experience with the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs.
His commitment to service extends well beyond business and the classroom. Duane has remained actively involved in civic and community organizations, including service as a Deacon and as a member of the Zoning Board, where he contributes his experience and perspective to matters affecting the communities he serves.
Duane is also affiliated with several fraternal and service organizations, including the Masons, Eastern Star, and the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He is especially proud to be one of the five founders of the Rockland County chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., an organization whose principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service closely reflect the values that have guided his own life.
Whether helping a family purchase a home, assisting a seller through an important life transition, helping a property owner protect an investment, teaching students in the classroom, or serving his community, Duane approaches each role with the same philosophy that was instilled in him from an early age:
Work hard. Continue learning. Treat people well. And always find a way to give something back.
It is this philosophy that continues to define his personal and professional commitment to being Your Dependable Real Estate Partner.
